Roadway Improvements Ahead
Clark Engineering Corporation provided the civil engineering for 4.25 miles of roadway reconstruction with asphalt concrete in Lincoln County, SD.The construction of the road was important to not only the 40 landowners and businesses, but also the commuters who travel the main road to Lennox from Interstate 29. Planning involved providing multiple adequate detours as well.
A Package of Projects
The project called for more than just replacing the existing road. The roadway was widened, shoulders added, and turn lanes were incorporated at major intersections to help with the transit of the 5,000 vehicles that travel the road daily. Included in the project were the construction of a 100 foot long single-span bridge, a reinforced concrete box culvert, and 200,000 cubic-yards of earth work.
Involving the Community
In addition to the civil engineering on the project, Clark handled the community relations, conducting public meetings to inform the adjacent property owners of the project's goals and proposed schedule. Clark met with each land owner for the purpose of executing the right-of-way documents and coordinating driveway access points. Clark also assisted in project coordination with the South Dakota DOT for project funding and bidding. Clark Engineering Corporation collaborated with many different organizations and residents to complete the project successfully. Clark discussed individual concerns with the land owners and adjusted construction phasing and detour planning to adapt to their needs.
