A Complex Problem
With increasing demands for medical facilities in downtown Minneapolis, Allina recognized they would eventually have to expand their campus to keep up with the demands of their clientele. When plans were developed to expand the campus by adding a separate building and a parking ramp, Allina knew they would have big challenges to overcome in meeting rigorous city codes and limited space issues.
Solutions that work
Clark’s civil engineers prepared a stormwater plan to facilitate the two phases of construction to help minimize costs and disturbances to the complex. Because of the facility location the first phase completed was the new parking ramp. In order to meet city storm water requirements, Clark designed a pond beneath the proposed parking ramp. This solution was more cost effective than a storage tank and used less space. Phase II incorporated site additions for the new building which included an infiltration area and a storm water chamber.
Complexity made simple
This complex project was completed on schedule and within the criteria of the budget. Allina was able to meet all of the city’s code requirements while meeting space and cost concerns. Working closely with the project partners, the building was able to remain open throughout the 20-month construction, allowing uninterrupted patient service. |
