Stillwater Schools ISD #834
This new comprehensive high school continues the tradition of quality education in Stillwater where the first high school in Minnesota was established. The 139-acre site supports a full athletic program along with outdoor natural science activities and long-term experiments. The building is organized on a traditional campus entry with a bell tower for the historic bell from Stillwater's 19th century main school.
The facility has three academic wings for science, math, and language/business studies. There is a 750 seat auditorium around which are clustered music theater, art and journalism facilities. Clark's structural engineers adapted engineering systems to meet the spatial and technology needs for each of these varied learning programs. The south wing houses the large spaces need for physical education and cafeteria facilities that also serve as an asset for the larger community.
With historically evocative architecture and academic spaces custom-designed for each department, Stillwater High School will adapt well to future changes in teaching, technology and school organization. An ideal blend of educational architecture and carefully detailed site and structural engineering, Stillwater's high school offers unusual opportunities for interdisciplinary education while preserving distinct departmental identity.
